Here is what happens to your messages – in plain words.

  • Signal-protocol encryption

    YouMeTalk uses the Signal protocol, an open and widely studied standard for end-to-end encryption. The keys are created on your phone and never leave it.

  • Nothing readable on the server

    Our server only passes on locked messages it cannot open – and deletes them as soon as they have been delivered.

  • Your password stays on your phone

    Your password never leaves your device. We never see it, so we can't lose it or hand it over.

  • No ads. No tracking.

    No advertising, no analytics SDKs and no selling of data. Your conversations are not a product.

  • Self-hosted, privacy first

    We run our own servers instead of relying on big-tech clouds, with a European approach to privacy: collect as little as possible and keep it only as long as necessary.

Questions, answered

When can I download YouMeTalk?

YouMeTalk is in its final stage of development. The apps for Android and iPhone are coming soon to Google Play and the App Store.

Can YouMeTalk read my messages?

No. Messages are end-to-end encrypted with the Signal protocol. Our server only holds locked messages until they are delivered and then deletes them.

What happens if I lose my phone?

You can restore your account on a new phone with your recovery phrase. Because we never hold readable copies of your chats, we can't restore your message history for you.

How does translation work?

Translation runs on your phone. Switch it on for a chat, choose your language, and tap "Show original" whenever you want to see the original text.

Is my @youmetalk.ai email end-to-end encrypted too?

Email follows the normal email standards so you can write to anyone, so it doesn't have the same end-to-end protection as your chats – the app reminds you of this when you write an email. It is hosted on our own mail server, not with a big-tech provider.

Are calls private?

Yes. Calls use WebRTC with end-to-end encryption and connect directly between devices where possible. If a direct connection isn't possible, an encrypted relay passes the call on without being able to listen in.

Do you show ads or track me?

No. There are no ads, no tracking SDKs and we don't sell data.

Does YouMeTalk have a dark mode?

Yes – light, dark or following your system, plus accent colours and adjustable text size.
